THE BEACH

Pensacola Beach, Florida, provides unlimited water experiences. The famous white sands and crystal clear water is home to seabird and turtle nests, dolphin watching cruises, and excellent sight fishing. Whether you’re camping out in Gulf Islands National Seashore or staying in a hotel or a beach house, Pensacola Beach, FL, is a year-round wonderland.

The beach provides nesting areas for the Least and Common Terns as well as the brightly colored Black Skinner. There is also a good chance to see an occasional Loggerhead turtle nest. Water temperatures are perfect for swimming and the white sands gives the beach a Caribbean flare.

From April through November, Pensacola is home to the US Navy and Marine Corp precision flying team the Blue Angels. The team practices in Pensacola during the week and the heads off to different show locations in the US and Canada over the weekend. Pick the right week, charter our boat, and you can experience firsthand the awe of a world-class airshow on the water.

Pensacola Bay is lined with thick seagrass beds which is populated with redfish, speckled trout and at times, Spanish mackerel and the aerobic ladyfish. The white sand creates depressions in the seagrass beds which makes for the perfect holding location for redfish and speckled trout. The gin-clear Gulf of Mexico waters give the fly angler unhindered view of Florida pompano, redfish and ladyfish as they cruise the shallows in search of a meal.

THE CAPTAIN

As a long time resident of the Pensacola Area, I grew up fishing Pensacola Bay, Santa Rosa Sound and the Gulf of Mexico. These decades of experience provide me the opportunity to show clients the ins and outs of fly fishing this area.

I have been fly fishing the salt for more than 25 years and was fortunate to work in the fly fishing retail business for 10 years, which honed my skills at instructing beginners. For me, nothing is more enjoyable than watching a new-comer catch their first saltwater fish on a fly.

As you might have guessed by now, my passion is sight fishing the shallow water flats of Pensacola waters for the likes of redfish, speckled trout, ladyfish, and their larger cousin, the silver king, tarpon. I venture offshore to chase schools of false albacore and Spanish mackerel.

Although I enjoy pursuing fish with a fly rod, I am a realist and know there are times when lightweight spinning gear is a must. I enjoy teaching young people to fish, be it fly or spin. Families are always welcome.

THE BOAT

We fish from a Maverick 21ft MasterAngler flats boat. The draft of the boat offers the opportunity to push into the shallow water where the big boys live and feed. Although it is a flats/shallow water boat, it was designed to make long runs in open water and provide anglers a smooth and dry ride if the weather turns nautical.
